David and Goliath

Each of the "classical" ranged weapons has at least one hero and a good story about him. The bow has Robin Hood (or alternatively Odysseus who shot through the holes of twelve axe heads), the crossbow has Wilhelm Tell and the apple. Our humble sling would be even less known nowadays, if it were not for biblical account on a shepherd boy who slayed a fearsome professional warrior.
