How to make a cracker

With proper technique, a sling with a cracker will produce a loud crack on release.

Step 1

To make a cracker, you need several about 16" long strings as well as a pair of pliers. Wrap the handle of the plies with a rubber band and let them pinch one end of the bundle of strings. With the pliers holding on to one end of the bundle of strings, take the other end and let the pliers spin, until the strings are twisted.

Step 2

Now grab the middle of the bundle with your teeth and put both ends next to each other. Now, when you release the middle of the bundle, it will automatically twist back and form a cord. Pinch the cord with the pliers about 4" after its closed end.

Step 3

Put of the two strands which emerge from the open end of the cord behind the pliers and around the cord twice to tie a double overhand knot.

Step 4

After you pulled the knot tight, fra the loose ends of the strings and shorten them to about 4". Instead of cutting them all equally long, you can leave the fibers in the middle somewhat longer. That will amplify the crack slightly.

Step 5

Untwist the close end of the cracker by a bit, to thread the other end through it.

Schritt 6

With the noose created by this, you can attack the cracker to a sling.
